Blue Waters

The House

Blue Waters was built in the 1920s, when houses were made with generous rooms, high ceilings and windows that frame the weather. We've kept its character — original fireplaces, sash windows, creaky floorboards and all — while making it warm, comfortable and easy to live in.

Downstairs, the sitting room and reading room both face the sea. The kitchen-diner at the back is where everyone ends up: a long table for twelve, doors onto the garden, and a range cooker that has seen a thousand breakfasts.

The hallway

A characterful welcome: chequered marble underfoot, a sweeping staircase and family pictures gathered up the stairs. It is the first thing you see when you arrive — and with a rack of straw hats by the door, you are ready for the beach before the bags are even unpacked.

The kitchen

A big range cooker and a round table where the day starts. There's a full-size American fridge-freezer, a microwave, and a window over the sink that looks out into the vines — everything a house of twelve needs, without a scrap of gloss.

The kitchen garden

Just outside the kitchen door, a sheltered little courtyard waits under a canopy of vines. Past the pale green gate, iIt's the perfect spot for morning coffee, or a quiet corner to read while lunch settles.

The dining room

Long candle-lit dinners around an oval table. Whitewashed brick, old beams and sash windows that catch the afternoon sun; when the doors are open, dinner drifts out onto the terrace.

The sitting room

The heart of the house on quieter days: a proper open fireplace, bookshelves stacked with reads, and a deep sofa arranged for conversation. It is the sort of room that invites you to put your feet up after a walk on the beach and watch the light change through the sash windows.

The terrace

When the weather is fine, this is where life happens: a covered spot at the top of the garden with a big wooden table. Most meals are eaten here, and it is where everyone naturally gathers — for breakfast in the sun, a long lunch, or an evening drink as the light fades over the sea.
